The “Frisco Skyscraper” Shower: A Gizmo Glass Tale

In Frisco, Texas, everything is bigger. The high school football stadiums look like NFL arenas, the SUVs have their own zip codes, and apparently, the residents are evolving into literal giants.

We recently received a call from a homeowner who didn’t just want a shower; they wanted a glass monument. Standing at a staggering 96 inches tall, this shower was reaching for the heavens—or at least the crown molding. At Gizmo Glass LLC, we don’t blink at big asks, but 8 feet of glass in a wet environment requires more than just a “can-do” attitude; it requires some serious structural gymnastics.

The Challenge: The Great Wall of Water

Standard shower glass usually clocks in at 80 inches. Our client’s shower was 96 inches. To put that in perspective, if NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal stood inside, he’d still have over a foot of headroom to contemplate his free-throw percentage.

The problem? Using standard 3/8″ glass at that height is like trying to build a skyscraper out of popsicle sticks—it’s going to wobble. Between the Texas humidity and the sheer physics of a heavy swinging door, we needed a solution that wouldn’t result in a “glass-tastrophe” every time someone lathered up.

The Solution: Heavy Metal (and Heavier Glass)

We decided to beef things up. We swapped the standard 3/8″ for 1/2″ Tempered Clear Glass. It’s thicker, sturdier, and has enough heft to withstand even the most vigorous shower-singing sessions.

To handle the weight of the door—which was heavy enough to give a CrossFit coach a workout—we engineered a transom above it. This acted as a structural bridge, distributing the load and keeping everything aligned. For the aesthetic, we skipped the boring chrome and went with the trendiest shade in North Dallas: Brushed Gold (also known as Champagne Gold). It’s the kind of hardware that says, “I have a wine cellar and my lawn is perfectly manicured.”

The Outcome: A Tall Drink of Water

The result is a shimmering tower of transparency that makes the bathroom feel like a high-end spa in The Star. The Champagne Gold hardware pops against the clear glass like jewelry on a red carpet. It’s sturdy, it’s sleek, and it’s officially the tallest thing in Frisco that doesn’t have a toll booth attached to it.
